Number sentences

I am learning to add two numbers together. I had to put the apples in the middle and I had to count how many there were altogether. This was a bit tricky for me before but when the teacher showed me it was easy.

Recognising contractions

I am learning to recognise contractions. I had to circle all the contraction words. 'I'm' is a contraction word and is short for 'I am'. This was a little bit tricky for me because I had to circle the contraction words and there were some compound words too. I was happy when I did it with no accidents.

Acrostic poem

We are learning to write an acrostic poem. We wrote about spring. It can be tricky to spell words. We enjoyed writing something for each letter. We had to think of a word that started with S, P, R, I, N, G and we had to start our sentence with this letter.

Mrs Bovill typed the stories for us and we helped her publish them. We got to choose a colour for the capital letters, the font and we helped choose the size so our page was full. Our poems look awesome!

We are so proud because Mrs Bovill thinks they are fabulous and we wrote great stories. We are proud because we are poets.

“It is tricky writing acrostic poems because it is hard to think of some words that start with the letter in the poem.” Moana.

Spring blossom

Look at our spring blossoms! First we drew the branch going across the page. We coloured our branches using pastel. We made the blossoms by scrunching up tissue paper and gluing them onto our trees. We then made a little bee or butterfly to go on our picture. We sketched our picture and then drew it on our plastic film. Mrs Bovill then cut them out and we glued them onto our picture.

Using our word of the week and writing about community

I am learning to use the word ‘said’ in my writing. We are learning about community too, so ‘The Bee Lady’ came to visit us. I am so proud of my story. They look lovely, cute cool and super. It can be tricky to spell words like ‘bee’ and to type the words on the computers. The next step for me might be to try again so I can do it quicker.

I had to pick a bee and then write my story on the computer. It is tricky to write my story. I had to use the word said in my story.

Root words and their endings

I had to circle the ending sounds and I had to circle the root words. The root is 'look' and the ending is 'ed'. This is easy for me. It makes me proud when I make no mistakes.

Ordering numbers 1-10

I am learning to order numbers 1-10. I played a game and I had hang the t-shirts in the right order from smallest to biggest. This is easy for me. It makes me happy when I don’t make mistakes and when it says well done.

Writing for a purpose

We published our story. Our story was about mum. Mum was our word of the week and it was going to be mothers day. We wrote our story so Mum could read it. We have been learning that we write for a purpose. The purpose of our story was to tell Mum something we like about her.

"I had to draw our my mum. It was almost mothers day. I wrote a story about my mum because I love her. I liked to colour in my mum. This is easy for me."

Before and after numbers

I am learning about numbers that are before and after. It is tricky to know what number comes before and after. It is easy to count up to the number, this helps me know what number comes before. I can use the hundreds board to help me find the numbers before and after.

"I am pointing at number 4. This is tricky for me" - Moana

Writing our Word of the Week

I am learning to use the word of the week in my story writing. I had to use the word see in my story. It is tricky to write words. I can use my word card to help me. I can try and sound out my letters. I am proud when I write my words. I am proud when I find the word I need on my word card. I am proud of my picture I did on Kid Pix.

"I was learning to write 'see'.  It's got S and E, E.  It's red." - Moana

Using illustrations to help me read

I am learning to use the illustrations to help me read. Illustrations help me read tricky words. I can look at the pictures and find words that match the sounds of the letters I can hear and see. Pictures give me clues when I am reading. They help me know what the story is about. I can talk about the pictures.
